As part of the overall aim to improve primary healthcare in Denmark, the concrete tasks for this project was to reduce the major health and safety challenges as well as the repetitive strain work in manual sterile production.
It has been decided to build two new central sterile services departments (CSSDs) to serve the region’s hospitals with surgical equipment. These new CSSDs will be heavily automated. The only major manual operations in the production lines will be at the pre-treatment tables (unclean area) and in the clean area at the packing tables.
The purpose of centralizing the processing of surgical instruments is to streamline the work processes in order to meet the growing hygienic requirements (product quality), increase productivity in the larger facilities and to improve the working environment for employees.
